Why Pope Leo XIV deserves the Nobel Peace Prize

Since his election, Pope Leo XIV has been the most consistent and courageous voice for peace among world leaders. While governments escalated, he called for de-escalation. While leaders invoked military might, he invoked the Gospel.

The Nobel Peace Prize exists to honor those who have “done the most or best work for fraternity between nations” and “the abolition or reduction of standing armies.” Pope Leo XIV has done exactly that — at personal and institutional cost.

“To the leaders of nations we cry out: stop! It is time for peace! Sit at the table of dialogue and mediation — not at the table where rearmament is planned and deadly actions are decided.”
— Pope Leo XIV
